In Chinese Medicine, fertility is often compared to the growth of a plant from earth. There is no one that would argue with the fact that we need a fertile soil in order for the plant to grow healthily. So what is a fertile soil?

Fertile soil is neither too dry nor too wet, well-nourished and moist, with the ability to accept and nurture the growth. This also applies in the same way for us as humans, as the body weight of both men and women effects the outcome of the pregnancy. Either being overweight or underweight can (but not always) reduce the chance of pregnancy.

Just like the soil, if the soil is too wet the seed will rot and fail to grow and if the soil is too dry, the seed will dry out and it will fail to grow as well. How about the seasons? In which season does the plant usually grow? Would they grow when it’s freezing cold? Or would they grow in the blazing heat? They grow in the spring when the weather is just nice and warm. If the soil is too cold and the ground is freezing there may not be a lot of growth. Or if there is extreme blazing heat then plant growth will be restricted or non existent. If our body is too cold or too hot it can inhibit us from being fertile.
