With Dr Kim away this week, that reminds me travel season has most certainly arrived! ✈️✈️🌴🥥.

I’m still waiting my turn but I thought I’d share my travel ‘gut survival kit’ because there’s nothing worse than a bad bowel when the food is good, the sun’s out and an adventure is on its way!

My travel essentials for gut health:

1. Charcoal pills- you’re eating stuff out of the norm when you travel. This is incase of a dodgy curry! Take these when you feel you’ve eaten something off or bad and your stomach feels the gurgles soon after or a mild case of food poisoning. Charcoal is antimicrobial and clings to foreign microbes to pass it out of the body.

2. Ginger pills/dried ginger: this can be for nausea and for travel sickness.

3. Miso packets – I found these little miso soup paste packets at the supermarket that I love! High in fermented goodness to keep up the gut microbes whilst you’re away, it’s super convenient, I just put a packet in boiling water everyday. It’s also super handy when you just need a salty warm soup when you’re missing home, dehydrated or feeling off.

4. Breathing and Warming the meridians: deep breathing and keeping your meridians (especially around the belly) nice and warm will keep your gut energy happy and nourish your gut-brain axis. i.e. maybe less mid-drifts and more warm baths!

5. If you’re a reflux’er- take a digestive enzyme supplement just before meals, zinc and l-glutamine especially if you’re having something rich.

As always, you can’t out supplement good gut habits like eating nutritious food, calming the mind, proper rest and regular movement. As much as you can, go for gut loving foods like fermented foods, bone broths and avoiding refined sugars and seed oils even when you’re away.

Happy travels!! Xx
